Who is PTET?PTET is an alias I've used since I started reading and posting about religion, atheism and evolution several years ago..What is this website for?It's just a place to put some things I've written on various places on the web. I don't claim any new discoveries, or post-graduate rigour: but I do check my sources, and provide links so that you can check them out for yourself. Some of the "essays" are a little rough, but hey...Do you believe in god?No. See my page Why I don't believe in the Christian God? for some reasons why...Do you believe in any God?No. I am an atheist.How do you know that god doesn't exist?I don't discount the possibility that there might be a god - but I don't personally believe that one exists.So you are an agnostic then?No - I'm an atheist.(Look it up in the dictionary). I can quite understand why people call themselves agnostic. Consider these words from Betrand Russell:"...in regard to the Olympic gods, speaking to a purely philosophical audience, I would say that I am an Agnostic. But speaking popularly, I think that all of us would say in regard to those gods that we were Atheists. In regard to the Christian God, I should, I think, take exactly the same line..." But it takes faith to be an atheist!Does it take "faith" not to believe in the tooth fairy or santa claus? Or to say "I do not know" when answered a question? Ask me how the Universe ultimately began... "I do not know".But I can prove that God exists!If so, you'll be the most important person in the history of all humanity. Go for it, by all means :-)Why do you only use authorities who support your worldview?That's just not true... See my Thoughts on authorities and illogical arguments.Doesn't atheism lead to immorality?No more so than religion... Have a look at some of my pages on the subject.Why do you have a problem with Christianity?I think all religions - certainly in their fundamentalist forms - are "a bad thing", secular ones too. Look at any culture that has been dominated by some form of religion: the Christian Roman Empire; the Aztecs; the Communist world; Iran; etc.The advancement and development of a citizenry dominated by religion has always suffered. By all means, believe in what you want to believe... Just don't expect everyone else to have to join in ;-) Why don't you open your heart to Jesus/Islam/Etc.?For pretty much the same reasons that you don't open your heart to any other religion.What makes you think that you know everything?The only thing I know is that I know nothing.What about evolution or The age of the Earth?I accept the teachings of mainstream science, as does pretty much every non-Fundamentalist Christian and Jewish organisation. The Earth is billions of years old, and mankind evolved from earlier more primitive lifeforms.But science says the Bible is correct!No it doesn't.
